I will be transferring in foreign language credits from another institution, but the credit has not been posted yet to my academic transcript at Indiana University. Should I still take the foreign language placement exam?
Yes. All students must fulfill a General Education World Languages and Cultures requirement. A language sequence is one way to do this. In addition, certain majors require three (3) or more semesters of a foreign language sequence. It is advisable for a student to take the online foreign language placement exam in order to leave open all possibilities. The student risks falling behind on their degree if credits do not transfer in as expected and/or if the student's ultimate major selection results in further language requirements.
